NL: Buitenlandse studenten die hun AFS-jaar doorbrengen in Nederland, horen zich aan bepaalde regels te houden omdat zij minderjarig zijn. Wanneer buitenlandse studenten willen reizen, dienen ze bepaalde formulieren (onderaan deze pagina) in te vullen en de reis aan te geven aan AFS Nederland. Er gelden verschillende regels voor reizen binnen Nederland en reizen buiten Nederland.

EN: Foreign students who spend their AFS-year in the Netherlands should follow rules because they’re minors. When foreign students want to travel, they have to fill in the forms (at the end of this page) and contact the AFS Netherlands office. There are multiple rules for trips inside the Netherlands, and trips abroad.

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING ADDITIONAL REGULATIONS:

  • For International Independent Travel outside school hours which includes an overnight stay, permission is, AT ALL TIMES, required from AFS Netherlands, your host family and your natural parents.
  • For National Independent Travel outside school hours which includes an overnight stay, permission is required from your host family.
  • International Independent Travel which includes an overnight stay will only be authorised when staying with relatives or with another AFS family or when the student is 18 years or older.
  • In exceptional circumstances, AFS may allow independent travel during school hours. Permission from school is required, also if it concerns a trip organised by the school itself (see the special section on the Travel Request Form for the school).
  • Where needed, AFS Netherlands will obtain permission from your natural parents. Please make sure they are informed of your plans in advance.
  • All Travel Request Forms should be sent/mailed to the office at least 2 weeks prior to the departure date.
  • AFS Netherlands reserves the right to refuse Independent Travel. Students who do not comply with AFS Netherlands’ regulations will be disciplined and may be expelled from the programme.
  • When going abroad on an approved trip, your AFS insurance remains valid. However, please make sure to take out additional insurance for your luggage.
  • *independent travel under 18 is allowed under the condition that the you are staying with another AFS host family or with relatives. Independent travel under 18, where you are staying in a hostel/hotel is not allowed.
    if you want to visit an AFS host family or relatives please provide AFS with the following:
    – a completely filled in travel from with signature of your host family
    – complete and clear details of your trip
    – an e-mail from the (host) family stating they are inviting you, on which days and that they will pick you up at the (train) station/airport
  • AFS NED will send this to AFS in your country in order to get permission from your parents.
